50 years of musculo-skeletal research – Lessons learned and future perspectives

Date: Monday 12 – 13 September 2016
Location: Chancellors’ Building

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the University of Bath, the Centre for Orthopaedic Biomechanics and the Centre for Regenerative Medicine will be jointly hosting a two day symposium that will focus on “50 years of musculo-skeletal research – Lessons learned and future perspectives”.

12 September: Day one will be hosted by the Centre for Orthopaedic Biomechanics, keynote speakers will cover aspects of:

  • orthopaedic research
  • the role of the surgeon
  • changing patient demographics
  • new technologies
  • the evolving world of scientific publication

13 September: Day two will be hosted by the Centre for Regenerative Medicine, keynote speakers will speak on:

  • tendon repair techniques
  • electrical bioreactor development
  • regulation of cartilage
  • bone homeostasis in development and disease

CALL FOR PAPERS
Submissions are invited, from researchers and clinicians, which address any relevant musculo-skeletal research topics including any lessons learned from history. A change in the format this year will be that the sessions before lunch on both days will be devoted to “Three Minute Poster Pitches” to encourage PhD students and other researchers to submit posters to be viewed during the lunch and coffee breaks. The format for these poster pitches will be a maximum of three slides to give an overview of the poster.

Abstract submission deadline 22 July 2016
The symposium on each day will consist of four sessions, the first three sessions comprising a Keynote Lecture followed by submitted presentations. The final session will be a Keynote Lecture followed by a Panel Discussion with the panel made up of the Keynote Speakers, Session Chairs and representatives from the orthopaedic industry.
